Young Scholars STAFF Reading Challenge!

Hello Teachers and Parents!

This summer Young Scholars is attempting to halt the dreaded summer slide by introducing a summer reading challenge for students. Each student will receive calendars for the months of June, July, and August, and will be challenged to read for as many days as they can for 15 minutes a day. Parents, please make sure to sign off on each day for your reader.  Upon returning to school, students will be awarded prizes for reaching certain goals.

LEVEL 1: Students who read for 30 total days will earn a bookmark and a certificate.

LEVEL 2: Students who read for 60 total days will earn all level 1 prize in addition to a new book.

LEVEL 3: Students who read for 75 total days will earn all level 1 and 2 prizes in addition to a free treat from Rita’s Italian Ice truck upon their return to school.

In this packet, we are also including an optional summer reading program offered through Barnes and Noble. Once signed up by a parent, each student has the opportunity to earn a free book from Barnes and Noble!

Thank you so much for your participation, and have a wonderful summer!

Happy reading!

Sincerely,

YSWPCS Reading Specialists

Mrs. Ritchie and Mrs. Timcheck

Multicultural Night

On May 23, Young Scholars of WPA and McKeesport Charter Schools held the second annual Multicultural Festival!  This collaboration included booths from around the world, an art show and student performances of singing, dancing, and playing instruments.  It was a wonderful evening at CCAC South Auditorium where we were able to showcase to our guests truly what the mission and vision of our schools are!
