SmartLab Program
YSWPCS started implementing SmartLab® Programs in the 2018-19 school year. It’s an engaging program where students explore STEM and Media arts through applied technology and project-based learning. It’s a fully-integrated learning environment where everything from the furniture and technology to curriculum and assessment work together to support hands-on, minds-on learning. It’s a place where personalized learning and intrinsic motivation engage students of all ages, interests and abilities.
There are SmartLab® programs that emphasize STEM, media arts or a blend of both. And in every one, students are creating remarkable projects that motivate them to inquire, explain, tackle new problems and celebrate their solutions.
In a SmartLab®, learners apply a wide-range of technologies to projects that matter to them personally and academically. Authentic assessment and meaningful reflection happen every day as students create ePortfolios to document and present their learning.
Students explore. They problem-solve. They collaborate and create. And they learn.
It’s what happens when we put educational technology where it belongs… in the hands of students .
Veterans Day
Young Scholars of Western Pennsylvania Charter School hosted its annual Veterans Day celebration honoring veterans and active duty military personnel. We were excited to be able to serve our honored guest’s lunch and have an assembly in their honor. The band played and middle school students sang the star spangled banner to kick off the assembly. Each veteran was introduced and thanked. The veterans were given time to interact with the students. Each grade level personally met and spoke with three different veterans throughout the afternoon in their classroom. Today was a day to honor our veterans, as well as give the students an opportunity to learn more about what it means to be a veteran and serve our country.
